| more Tiger Army pix from Warped @ Merriweather Post Pavillion - July 25, 2007 |
[01 Aug 2007|08:05am] |

July 25th Warped in Columbia, MD
Here's some more shots from my 2nd Warped show which thankfully was local (no 4 hour drive LOL!) at Merriweather Post Pavillion.
Tiger Army came on at 12:30 on the "Lucky" stage - have tons more pix up on the ghosttigers site at www.ghosttigers.com/gallery/concert/Warped-Merriweather-2007.html. If some are a little washed out it is due to all the dust swirling around stirred up by the pit, had to keep cleaning off the lens tho the hood around it helped quite a bit!
The setlist was pretty much the same as VA Beach (Prelude: Signal Returns, Nocturnal, Afterworld, Rose of the Devil's Garden, Forever Fades Away, FTW, Never Die) except that instead of "Where the Moss Slowly Grows" this time they played "In the Orchard" with Donny on pedal steel guitar.
After they played they did a signing at the FUSE tent and raffled off a very cool bar stool with the Tigerbat hand painted on it by artist Paul Frank - one of two in existence with the other owned by Nick 13. You had to be present to win and a number of folks entered but didnt hang around & lost out so Nick had to keep drawing but the winner was VERY happy that the other folks had bailed!

( lots of pix behind the cut )

| Tiger Army at the Virginia Beach Warped! |
[31 Jul 2007|03:17pm] |
Tiger Army at the Virginia Beach Warped!
Made it to the Warped show down in Virginia Beach on July 24 - Took a bazillion pix of Tiger Army, The Dear & Departed and the Unseen - here's a few of TA and I'll post some links to the others.
I finally got to ask Jeff about the new bass & yes it is a King Doublebass Tiger King and what a beauty!! Tiger Army sounded GREAT - Donny is on tour with TA this summer instead of Social D. which is awesome as now he's playing pedal steel guitar with them at every show so they can add in their country style songs, in VA Beach it was "Where the Moss Slowly Grows" which is so beautiful live. They also played "Afterworld" and "Forever Fades Away" from their latest CD & old favorites like "Nocturnal", "Rose of the Devil's Garden", "F.T.W" and "Never Die". Being Warped its only a half hour set but still well worth it!
Really enjoyed The Dear and Departed over on the Hurley stage, they played very early and there was not much of a crowd, these guys definitely deserve more attention! Then waited around until 5:30 to catch the Unseen who got a great response.
Downside... getting a bit of sunburn even tho I liberally applied the super sunblock (still nothing is effective when you are out in bright light all day) & loosing my sunglasses causing a quick stop on the way home when I spied the familiar Target logo to the side & thankfully was able to find another paid exactly the same. I think this is my 4th pair, this is why I never wear expensive sunglasses!!!

And more Warped reports to follow!

| Tiger Army Record Release show!! |
[25 Jun 2007|02:49am] |
Tiger Army Record Release show in Las Vegas!
What a fantastic show - very hyped up crowd, mostly folks from SoCal who'd driven out to party in Vegas for the weekend in a totally sold out show, openers were the Dear and Departed & I had seen them a year or so ago opening for AFI at the Henry Fonda but they were 10 times better this time around! Picked up their CD & am looking foward to seeing them at Warped.
Tiger Army were of course, amazing... played some new stuff (Signal returns, Afterworld, Forever Fades Away, LunaTone, Pain and How the Moss Slowly Grows), a LOTTA old stuff back to "Jungle Cat", but only one song off Ghost Tigers Rise tho (Rose of the Devils Garden), but it was great to hear old favs like "Power of Moonlite" and "When the Night Comes Down" I haven't heard in a while.
Donny from Social D's crew joined in on steel guitar (hardly a guest appearance as he's practically the 4th Tiger by now!) so we got THREE country style songs - Outlaw Heart, In the Orchard and Where the Moss Slowly grows, which Nick introduced as the most emotional & personal song for him on the new album, dedicated to his childhood friend Ben Wilson who took his own life last summer, VERY VERY hauntingly beautiful live
and TWO encores!
Brilliant show, got some pix, not too many good ones this time around sadly as I could only take them for the first 3 songs & security were giving me shit for being behind the barriers & wanted to stop me but at least I got a few I'll post on the ghosttigers.com web site as soon as I get home
BTW Jeff has a beautuful new bass - looks like a custom blue King Doublebass Tiger King to me with a really pretty striping pattern in the woodgrain - SWEET!!! Nick had a guitar I'd never seen before - a natural wood finish one for "How the Moss Slowly Grows" & a few others
( way more pix below )

The song has been added to various stations around the country, but getting added by a major station in the Midwest would be a huge help!

| Tuesday!! |
[03 Jun 2007|11:49am] |
Remember - the new album comes out Tuesday!
If you get it online from iTunes you can get a bonus track of "Where the Moss Slowly Grows" remixed by Jade Pudget of AFI. On the recent interview with Nick 13 on the BBC Radio 1 Lock up show (archived for a couple more days here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/mikedavies Nick mentions that Jade wanted to do an electronic remix so sounds like it will be pretty different from the original version (which is more or less country swing much like "Outlaw Heart" or "In the Orchid")

| Tiger Army at Hootenanney! |
[06 Jul 2006|03:59pm] |
Headed out to Oak Canyon Ranch in Irvine, CA last Saturday to see Tiger Army near the top of the bill (Just under the headliners Reverend Horton Heat) they had a huge crowd & got a great response tho unfortunately their set got cut short due to some problems in the crowd - I found out the next day that there were a bunch of white supremacist nazi skins that showed up to fuck with the large hispanic population in the custom car clubs and apparently somebody got stabbed which explains the helicopter hovering during TA's set & the long line of cops in riot gear as we excited.
Still it was a great set - Donny from Social D (he's Mike Ness's tech) joined them on steel guitar and they did not only "In the Orchard" but "The Long Road" which was amazing live - I'd never heard it before I don't think they'd played it before this week in some of the west coast shows they did leading up to Hootenanney!!!
Others in the setlist included Ghostfire, Moonlite Dreams, Rose of the Devil's Garden, Nocturnal, Annabel Lee, LunaTone and of course ending with Never Die. There was a pretty funny moment when a helicopter was making a racket overhead & Nick 13 flipped it off & said to it "can't you see I'm singing??"
They had some neat new merch including some really nice new shirt designs (girls shirt with an angel winged Tiger bat & one like the B side of the Rose of the Devils Garden picture disc, also a regular shirt with Tiger Army in very fancy decorative red & white script & one with a neat Mexican day of the dead sugar skull design (with a very cute little bat winged sugar skull very tiny on the back) & a very nice embroidered black polo.
After TA played we dropped by the merch booth to pick up stuff on the way out & then left early - sorry to miss Reverend Horton Heat but it was so hot & packed that I was afraid if we stayed it would take hours to get out of there & we had places to go & people to see :)
And it looks like that Tiger Army 4 album will be pushed back again...there will be a west coast tour supporting AFI in September - already there is a September 15th show in Long Beach on ticketmaster's site but nice to get the approx dates for the rest, hmmm hopefully I can take 2 weeks vacation then!

Click LJ cut for more pix & there are tons more on my website -
www.ghosttigers.com/gallery/concert
(also check my personal LJ for lots of pix from Hootenanney of the Horrorpops, The Living end, Wanda Jackson & Calavera!)
